Backgammon Resources

1. How much time can you spend on a club?

A typical backgammon tournament lasts between 2 – 6+ hours. Clubs meet weekly or monthly. You have to transport yourself there and back. Finding players and a location, and organizing a schedule, takes more time.

2. Do you have the ability to run a club?

Organizing people is stressful. When I stopped my duties as President of the Vancouver Backgammon Club it was because I was getting too stressed out about the time commitment.

You don’t need to be a great player, but you should be a people-person. A lot of playing backgammon is interacting with other people. If you don’t give off a friendly vibe, or if you get angry easily, it’s probably not for you.

Backgammon players come in all types. You should know how to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds.

3. Can you delegate?

Once things get rolling it’s helpful to delegate. You will gain some time back, and players who help will have more investment in the club. Be clear with communication, and be willing to take suggestions.
